Rockaway
Borough is Still A Bargain
Most other municipalities of our size
charge fees for each sport, for example $75 for football $50 for softball etc.
A neighboring town charges $120 for a family or $25 a person to swim on weekends
only! Towns in the area were
charging per sport fees of $20 to $40 for Baseball or Softball, $20 to $35 for
Basketball, $50 to $105 for football, and $15 to $50 for Soccer back in 1997.
Another town charges $50 for each of two 4-week summer playground programs, with
a limit of 125 kids per session.
We have not increased the fees in several years, but facilities have been
upgraded. Heady Park has new
playground equipment and the field will soon be refurbished.
Park Lakes has new play equipment on the beach, new rafts and swim team
docks and a new storage building and the lake will be dredged this spring, with
new sand dumped into the swimming area.. Centennial
Park has new play equipment. Smith
field is in tiptop shape. The
fields at TJ are being upgraded. A
new field for Jr. Baseball was built and the installation of new fencing,
bleachers and player benches has begun. All fields are being seeded and
fertilized. Now an entire new facility is built on the
DONATONI Track, just off West Main Street.
The Mayor and Council have
provided us with budgets that allow us to run first class programs. We want to insure the continued improvements in programs and
facilities.
